Harvest Fest 2016

Fun time again this year. We didn't breakout everything but had a small display which everyone enjoyed. Looking forward to next year and two weekends! That's right, Harvestfest will be two weekends in 2017. The weekends are October 6-8 and October 13-15 so plan your camping accordingly. At this point we will be there both weekends with the full set up. Here are a few picks:

South Higgins Lake State Park Harvestfest 2009

For the past six years now a local state park has been hosting a Harvest Fest at South Higgins State Park as a way to celebrate Halloween early with campers, usually on the first full weekend of October. Along with a Haunted Walk and Trick or Treating for the kids, the organizers of the event encourage campers to decorate their lots. On the last night, the camp staff come around and judge who has the best decorated lot. For the past two years, we have won this competition for best lot and it really isn't possible without all of the hard work that a group of us put into it. Here are a couple vids of props that I made for this year. We have done tombstones (static) in the past but more I learn what haunters are doing with motion it really adds to the display. Phil and Char along with Lee and Bobbie did an autopsy room and haunted diner display. They were awesome (sorry Bruce). Carrie entertained the young ghosts and goblins with her pet rat. Yes it was pastic but who knew? Our sons Andy and Alex also pitched in with the event.

In our past four years my wife Debbie and our good friends Corny and Shari, Lee and Bobbie, Gale and Mary, Bruce and Carrie, and Phil and Char put the time in making it a success. This year we were joined by our friend Kay, my brother Jim and his wife Karen and their friends Jeff and Michelle. Michelle's dark side came out with her rendition of a physco killer in the autopsy room. I think Jeff probably slept with one eye open for the next few nights :)

This is one fun event (even though the weather stunk this year). The kids trick or treating really find our site fun and scary. I suspect "scary" by the few kids who were sreaming to their parents that they did not want to go in. For those kids we made sure they took the short cut candy tent. That seemed to sooth their fears. The haunted walk was absolutely kick a#$ this year. Kudos to everyone who participated (which is all volunteer) in it. I guess thats what makes it so much fun. The park mood is nothing but halloween and having a great time. The camp hosts are really fun and no doubt put in a lot of time for this event.

Here we are setting up on Saturday morning. For all of the stuff we did it only took about 3 hours. By noon we were just adding the odds and ends.

Our pom Max is jail breaker number 2. He was in for humping. Too bad he is a repeat offender!

Its go time!!

You know, I wondered where all of the booze went. You have got to watch those darn pumkins!!!

Here is the autopsy room with crazed Michelle. She is hard to see through the fog on the right. Her husband Jeff is on the left.

Harvest Fest 2008

Here are some pics from our 2008 Harvest Fest. It was very, very cold that year. It was one of those weekends were you needed to stand around the fire pit, but with that being said, there is nothing better than a crisp campground and the smell of a campfire. Of course, when you are making memories with your friends it doesn't really matter what the weather is. The gang included myself and my wife Debbie and our sons Andy and Alex, Corny and Shari and their daughter Kendra, Bruce and Carrie, Bobbi and Lee and their son Jeremy, Phil and Char and their daughter Jessie, and Gale and Mary.

This was the first year that we really expanded the cemetery scene. Phil and Char also set up the autopsy room for the first time. The kids worked the autopsy room with the real beef parts. It was kinda funny that due to how cold it was the stuff never really thawed out. Trick or Treaters really took a close look at this big heart sticking out of the manikin. This year there was a virus that traveled our campsite called Jose Quervo. Luckly it was a short acting virus that usually passed by early afternoon. There were alot of great decorated sites everywhere. Due to pure luck we won best decorated lot. Its a group effort and a heck of alot of fun. If you are looking for one last camping trip for the summer or love halloween, you really need to attend. Its a hoot for kids and adults alike.
Its carving pumpkin time! Here is (left to right) my wife Debbie, Char, Carrie, Bobbi, Corny and his wife Shari.

Remember me saying how cold it was? Here is Lee, Shari, Corny and myself warming by the campfire.

I think this speaks for how cold it was. Char and Bobbi living the good life!

I know, pretty sad.
